SBAS has the pleasure to invite you to a joint Nordic luncheon meeting with DABS and NBAS together with Mr Joona Selin, Executive Director of the Nordic Business Council of the Philippines (NBCP). NBCP is a Manila-based trade and investment promotion and business support organization between Nordic and Baltic companies and the Philippines, providing membership and consulting services to its 95 members and clients.

Based in Manila for the last five years, Mr Selin was an analyst and Asian Development Bank liaison for Finnish semi-governmental trade promotion organization Finpro, prior to establishing NBCP in late 2012. Mr Selin will provide us with the latest update from the Philippines, covering the following topics:

From the business perspective, every dollar that goes to the cost of disputes is a dollar less for business.  For the customer or consumer, it means a dollar more. For many years, the only option available to parties who had a dispute was to go to court. However, things are different now with mediation proving to be increasingly popular as a quick and cost-effective tool for resolving disputes without destroying business relationships in the process.

In November 2014, the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) was launched to offer a mediation service designed specifically for cross-border disputes. SIMC’s performance in its initial year has exceeded expectations and its unique Arb-Med-Arb service which combines arbitration and mediation in a simple one-stop process has been called “what users have always wanted”.

Come and hear from Mr Lok Vi Ming, SC, Director of SIMC as he shares through a “live” simulation of mediation the benefits of mediation and how businesses can use mediation as part of their conflict management strategy.

We are very happy to have Ambassador Eva Walder, Director-General for Trade at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, as our speaker at the monthly luncheon on Wednesday 23rd September 2015.

Ms Walder will talk about the Swedish Government’s trade priorities, the global trade agenda and its implications for Sweden.

Ms Eva Walder has had a long career at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs with a particular focus on trade related issues as well as on Asia. She was appointed Director-General for Trade in 2011 after spending two years as Director-General for EU Internal Market and the Promotion of Sweden and Swedish Trade. Between 1998 and 2002, Ms Walder served as the Swedish Ambassador to Singapore. Upon her return to Sweden she was appointed Director General for the Department for Asia and the Pacific at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Ms Walder is a Member of the Board of the Swedish Export Credit Cooperation as well as of the Board of Business Sweden. Read the rest of this entry »
